The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger Over Size Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Modifications
Earlier, the sizing featured one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, from Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, located in England, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
